METALLICA Concert Promoter Pays Halifax Less Than $40,000 To Settle Dispute
June 30, 2011According to TheChronicleHerald.ca, promoter Harold MacKay paid less than CAD $40,000 to the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to settle a dispute over permits and services for METALLICA's July 14 performance on Citadel Hill.
The city had threatened to deny municipal services for the event unless MacKay repaid the CAD $359,550 shortfall from last year's failed concerts to the city. MacKay and his wife Michelle were the principals in Power Promotional Events Inc., the company behind several major shows on the Halifax Common, including Paul McCartney in July 2009 and the BLACK EYED PEAS in the summer of 2010.
Power Promotional went out of business in October 2010, owing thousands of dollars to several suppliers.
The promoter for the METALLICA concert is MacKay Entertainment Inc., a new company headed by Michelle MacKay.
"Payment of less than $40,000 has been made by Rock the Hill to the city in order to get municipal services," David Coles, the lawyer for Rock The Hill 2011, told CBC News on Wednesday.
"Having done this, Mr. MacKay understands any issues between himself and the city are at an end."
